The reason I put this website together was to help other people who may be going through financial difficulties, just like I have. I am a 29 year old man who has had a very difficult year (2008), thanks to the credit crunch and then the downturn in the economy which led to my business ceasing to trade and the start of my financial diffulties.
I had been trading as a mortgage broker, which had been going reasonably well until the credit crunch hit. It took a number of months for the real effects of the credit crunch to hit my business, and in the intervening time, I thought - as I’m sure others would - that I would just have to work harder and trade my way through the difficult period, knowing that once I came through the other side, there would be more business to go round as the larger brokers would lay off stay and other smaller independents such as myself would go out of business.
Unfortunately that didn’t work, and from April to June 2008 my business dried up - I didn’t put any new business through - meaning that the commissions soon dried up. This meant I had to get a job or start another business. I started looking for a job and spent three months going to interviews before eventually finding some work. During this time, in an effort to preserve what little savings I did have, I stopped paying my debts back, instead opting to write to them all explaining my situation and offering them a much reduced, token payment until things were back on track.
It has taken six months, but things have returned to normal, I am earning money again and have agreed to start paying my creditors back, albeit on a debt management plan, whereby the interest and charges are stopped, allowing you to repay the debt as quickly as possible.
